Med/Peds Educational Conference
Monthly conferences in Med-Peds focus on disease entities which span the ages. Recent discussions include allergy treatments among children and adults, obstructive sleep apnea, HIV treatment during pregnancy and the neonatal period, and treatment and understanding of congenital heart diseases in adulthood. These conferences offer an excellent opportunity to have the entire Med-Peds residency together for the discussion of Med-Peds clinical dilemmas.
Departmental Grand Rounds
Weekly Grand Rounds in Medicine and Pediatrics invite faculty from within and outside of NJMS to discuss topics of academic interest. Frequently featuring prominent speakers within their fields, Grand Rounds is a great opportunity to see and hear about the most cutting-edge research or clinical medicine throughout the world.
Clinic Pathology Conference
Also held weekly, residents have the opportunity to present unique cases encountered during clinic service to the departments for academic discussion, and work in conjunction with faculty or fellows on rare disease findings. Many residents have taken these cases on to national conferences and as case report publications. The conference also provides an exciting avenue to hear how our faculty experts think about clinical medicine and disease processes.
Departmental Didactics
Each department holds resident didactic conferences either in the form of morning reports and noon conferences, as in Internal Medicine, or in the form of weekly blocked lectures, as in Pediatrics. These didactics typically follow a “theme of the month,” focusing on specific disciplines. This creates more focused learning in anticipation of specialty boards at the end of residency. These conferences take-on a variety of formats including journal club, team-based learning, morning reports, M&M, MKSAP/PREP review, and many more.
Workshops & Other Conferences
Residents have various opportunities to attend workshops and other conferences to get hands-on experience or in-depth teaching in a multitude of topics. Routinely offered to the residents are Procedure workshops, Point-of-care Ultrasound, Research Day, Humanism in Medicine, Global Health conferences, GME Grand Rounds, and the Chief Resident Leadership conference.
